Classification of aluminium alloys for forging

Aluminum alloy can be divided into cast aluminum alloy and deformed aluminum alloy according to its composition and technological properties. The deformation aluminum alloy can be divided into four categories: rust-proof aluminum, duralumin, superduralumin and forgingaluminium.

The main alloying elements in antirust aluminum are manganese and magnesium, which belong to al-mn and al-mg alloys. This kind of aluminum alloy belongs to the aluminum alloy which cannot be strengthened by aging. After forged by forging press and annealing, it is a single phase solid solution, so it has high corrosion resistance and good plasticity.Rustproof aluminum has a strong ability to withstand pressure processing, and can be processed under cold pressure to produce processing strength.

Duralumin is basically an al-cu-mg alloy and contains a small amount of manganese. Duralumin is one of the most widely used deformed aluminum alloys in the aviation industry. Duralumin has a strong aging hardening ability, and its strength can reach up to 500Mpa after heat treatment. It is used to make various load-bearing components in aircraft. But duralumin has poor corrosion resistance.

Superduralumin is mainly al-cu-mg-zn series, such as 7A04, etc. It is one of the strongest deformed aluminum alloys. The disadvantages of this alloy are poor fatigue resistance, sensitivity to stress concentration, obvious stress corrosion tendency and lower heat resistance than duralumin.

Forgingaluminium belongs to al-mg-si-cu and al-cu-mg-ni-fe alloys. Although there are many kinds of alloying elements in this kind of aluminum alloy, the content of each element is less, so it has good thermoplasticity and is suitable for making aviation forgings manufactured by forging press, especially large forgings with complex shapes.
